Political Science

Studying political science is crucial for understanding the dynamics of power and policy that shape societies globally. By exploring political systems, behavior, and institutions, students gain insights into how decisions are made, how we got to where we are today, and how to make a difference. 

The Department of Political Science administers programs in Politics, American Politics, and International Relations. These degrees provide students with skills for rewarding careers in the public sector, law, campaigns, journalism, business, non-profits, advocacy, and education.  

You will be connected to internships and a large network of fellow students and alumni working in the governments of Des Moines and other cities, of Iowa and other states, in Congress and at the White House, and around the globe.
